Home Improvement: Adding Value to Your Home

Wednesday 15 August 2012

With the August Bank Holiday weekend just around the corner, a recent survey has revealed how popular home improvements are amongst prospective sellers and the value that they can add to a property.

Conducted by estate agency organisation, Relocation Agent Network amongst its members, the survey found that nearly two thirds1 would recommend that sellers make home improvements before placing their property on the market. Indeed it looks like the majority of sellers are listening to Network agents, as 87% of them are said to carry out DIY jobs before trying to sell their home.2

So if you are planning to spend this coming Bank Holiday making home improvements, which room should you concentrate on to add the most value to your property? According to Relocation Agent Network, sellers need to focus on the kitchen, with the vast majority of survey respondents - 93% - indicating so. Interestingly, 75% of respondents said that home improvements made to the dining room would add the least value.

Richard Tucker, Managing Director of Relocation Agent Network, said, “In the current market, it may seem a little challenging to sell your home, but tips such as making home improvements to your kitchen before you sell, is just one way that may help.Your local Network member can guide you through the selling process and their Relocation Agent Network membership means that they have access to potential out of town buyers moving into the area, providing an additional avenue for you to sell your home.
